The work on the main buildings, two men's hostels and laboratories were taken up straightaway and subsequently on their completion, the classes were shifted to present campus in October 1960. The college was formally inaugurated by late Shri. When the University of Calicut was formed in 1968, the college was subsequently affiliated to it. For a brief spell from 1977 to 1980, the college was under the academic and administrative control of the Cochin University of Science and Technology.Prof. S. Rajaraman, a civil engineer of international repute and author of many engineering books honoured the post as the first principal of the college.
