The Mathrubhumi Daily. Born 18th March 1923. Formed by a group of patriots headed by K.P. Kesava Menon, the Mathrubhumi evolved in the crucible of the freedom movement and went on to become an intricate part of the social fabric of Kerala. A newspaper born out of a relentless passion to explore the truth and lay bare issues of life changing significance before its readers. Many editions later, Mathrubhumi Illustrated Weekly was started in 1932, nurturing the careers of literary titans in the Malayalam pantheon, till date. Grihalakshmi women's monthly was started in 1979. Chitrabhumi, the magazine devoted to films, was started in 1982. Other periodicals catering to niche segments followed with the entry of Mathrubhumi Thozhilvartha (1992), Mathrubhumi Sports Masika (1994), Mathrubhumi Vidyarangam (1994), Mathrubhumi Successline (1994), Balabhumi (1996) and Mathrubhumi Arogya Masika (1997). Our youngest division MBTV, scripting wholesome entertainment, was envisaged to reinforce our presence in the news and information segments. It has within a short span of time established its sway over discerning viewers by providing quality TV software programming.
