Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala, established by Vaidyan C.N. Namboodiri had its humble origins in 1933. He was a visionary, inspirational leader and a philanthropist who was ahead of his times. After 7 years of academics at a gurukulam, he ventured into setting up Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala, at the age of 25.Based on a framework of home grown wisdom and intuition, he decided to brave his passion when modern concepts of marketing was much in wanting. Today, he is credited as a pioneer in institutionalising the concept of Ayurvedic medicine marketing in Kerala. The name could carve a niche in the market early on and spread its branches to all corners of the country. As early as in the 1960’s, Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala had over 50 branches and more than 100 agencies. It became the first Ayurvedic firm from South India to explore the Delhi market and other major centers in India. This network flourished under his meticulous management and now has full- fledged treatment divisions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur and Thodupuzha. Apart from placing his firm meritoriously, Vaidyan C.N. Namboodiri proved to be a physician of eminence too. He had patients from far corners of the globe. He visited various states in America on request from his patients in the early 70’s. His ideals and principles are revered in its truest sense through the last seven decades and will continue in the years to come.

The term "Ayurveda" is emanated from two components ie, 'Ayush' as 'life' and 'Veda' as 'Science' and literally, it is the science of life. 'Brahma' the originator of this system passed it on to Ashwini Kumars, who in turn imbibed and imparted the system to Rishis from whom it was transpired among the people through generationsAyurveda, 5000 years' old system of medicament on earth is the traditional segment of India moduled and compiled from the age of Vedas. The principles of Ayurveda are to preserve and promote physical, mental and spiritual well being of life. The bedrock of Ayurveda is on two theories-ie Panchamabhootha theory and Tridosha theory. Ayurveda philosophy enunciates five basic elements on living and non living matters like Prithvi(Earth), Jala(Water), Teja(Fire), Vayu(Air) & Akash (Ether). Human body is made out of these five elements; collectively known as Panchamahabhootha. The physiological functions of the body are totally governed by three biological units namely 'Vatha', 'Pitta' and 'Kapha' and these three doshas are the basic elements which influence the functions of the body. Ayurvedic treatment helps restore the equilibrium of doshas. Ayurveda stipulates self healing, restricted diet and nutrition, exercise, rest and relaxation, pranayamas, cleaning and rejuvenation, with the application of medicinal herbs. It lays great emphasis on preventive and dietary methods for the sustenance of good health.
