The Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur one of the most prestigious institution in Kerala for technical education had a modest but epoch beginning in a building temporarily provided by the Maharajas Technological Institute, Thrissur at its Chempukkavu campus.The foundation stone of the main college building was laid by late Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India,on26th April 1958. The work on the main buildings, two men's hostels and laboratories were taken up straightaway and subsequently on their completion, the classes were shifted to present campus in October 1960. The college was formally inaugurated by late Shri. Pattam A Thnu pilla, the then Chief Minister of Kerala on 2nd February 1962.The present college campus is spread over an area of 120 acres and is located at Ramavarmapuram which is about 5 Km from the heart of Thrissur town and about 6 Km from Thrissur Railway station.The college, in the beginning, was affiliated to the University of Kerala. When the University of Calicut was formed in 1968, the college was subsequently affiliated to it. For a brief spell from 1977 to 1980, the college was under the academic and administrative control of the Cochin University of Science and Technology.Prof. S. Rajaraman, a civil engineer of international repute and author of many engineering books honoured the post as the first principal of the college. He along with Prof. M.P.Mathew and Prof. V.S.Nair ( the then Head of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering respectively.) formed the triumvirate that gave the college a strong footing and set the pace for the onward growth and development

Mahajubilee Training College is a self financing college of education offering B.Ed course that professionally equip potential teachers. Sad at the barrenness of Syro-Malabar Church of Kerala in nurturing saints, they founded our Congregation so that women also could have the same chance, as men to lead a consecrated life, love God and neighbor and serve with total commitment.Vimala College is a Christian College under the Management of the Nirmala Province, Thrissur, Kerala of C.M.C. (The Congregation of Mother Carmel) in the Roman Catholic Church. The College is under the religious jurisdiction of the Catholic Bishop of Thrissur. The college owes its origin to the farsightedness and vision of its founder patron, Most Rev Dr Joseph Attippetty, the first Indian Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.Greatly concerned by the lack of educational facilities for the members of his diocese, His Grace ventured upon the mission of starting a new college at Ernakulam, the then capital of the Former State of Cochin. His efforts bore fruit in 1946 when the University of Madras accorded sanction to His Grace for starting a second grade college.The college began functioning on 16th of July, 1946, in the old St.Albert’s High School building, situated in front of the present college campus with 150 students in the first year intermediate class.Years have gone by. Long strides have been taken by the college in its development. Today under the patronage of His Grace Dr.Daniel Acharuparambil, St.Albert’s College is a front runner First Grade College functioning under the Mahatma Gandhi University.
