Sevashram is a charitable society registered in March 1995. The objectives of the society, articulated in the Memorandum of Association, are: (1) To evolve an alternate 'SANYASA', rooted in Indian culture, by a group of people committed fully to the service of fellow human beings, belonging to different religions, sexes, walks of life and regions. (2) To empower the marginalized unorganized masses to become aware of their rights and duties as citizens and contribute their share towards the building up of a just society, drawing inspiration from the 'Grama Swaraj' of Gandhiji's dreams and the 'Kshema Rashtra' envisaged in the Constitution of India, tapping locally available resources to the maximum.Hindus believe that the well-being of the universe depends on the proper turning of the wheel of sacrifice (yajna chakra pravarthanam) and that each creature has to contribute its share towards this end. Those humans who fulfill this duty without desiring the fruits of their labour (nish kama karma) get liberated from the chain of birth and death (janana marana chakra) and attain eternal bliss (moksha or ananda). The Bhagavad Gita calls such human beings 'sthitha prajna' or 'jivanmukta' (those who acquired equanimity and saved themselvesDetachment (anasakthi) is a prerequisite for reaching the state of Stitha Prajna, and it has to be the personality trait of true 'sanyasins' (those who have renounced everything).Christian tradition also stipulates total renunciation - true detachment- as a necessary pre- condition for discipleship. Love becoming fruitful in service alone is to be the distinguishing mark of Christians. Jesus is the role- model for genuine Christian sanyasa. He had no home, work, food or money; and yet, he was enjoying heavenly peace and joy (samatvam) which were the fruits of His union (yoga) with the 'Abba' (Father). By giving sight to the blind, cure to the sick, empowerment to the weak and by "announcing that the time has come when the Lord will his save his people" - Lk. 4:19 - Jesus showed his disciples the path to integrated liberation.'Being ' is more valuable than 'Having'. While the former indicates the state of life, the latter relates to what each form of life has acquired, in the process of living. Of course, 'living' is prior to and more important than 'Possessing'. It is not by virtue of mere 'existence' that some are able to 'acquire'; it is thanks to the grace of the Almighty and the wise and skillful use of the physical and psychic faculties, favorable circumstances and opportunities that they are able to make strides of progress towards achieving their full potential. Hence, they have the obligation to share what they apparently have with those who are deprived of these fortunes in right measure, for no fault of theirs. If this is not done, the demands of dharma will not be met. Deprivation and exploitation will, then, be the natural fall-out. They will, no doubt, provoke revolt and retaliation, which would assume disastrous forms of violence, sooner or later.

"Punarjani" is a Trust registered under the Indian Trusts Act 1882 (Act II of 1982) and its Registered Office is situated now at Killanoor Village, Poomala P O, Thrissur in Kerala.The main object of our Trust is to establish and run institutions for de-addiction treatment and rehabilitation-oriented institutions and the other objectives includes the establishment and maintenance of Centers for Family and Child Welfare and Education, Boarding Houses and Residential Institutions for students, workers, mentally retarded, physically handicapped and old age persons. Such a Retreat Centre - a peaceful, calm resting place which provide medical, emotional, motivational, and spiritual help and assistance to a badly-affected dependant alcoholic - is very essential in the treatment of mentally depressed, emotionally disturbed and spiritually fallen alcoholics. Our attempts to re-discover, enlighten and de-addict a person who is suffered by the dangerous disease of Alcoholism is totally based upon the principles and ideals of humanism and philanthropy which is secular in nature. Even though we believe in God the Almighty, any discrimination of caste or creed should not be a hindrance to the recovery of any human being affected by alcoholism, hence we wish to provide absolute freedom to the Alcoholics to conceive, pray and believe in God as he wish to conceive.The said Retreat Center can be functioned as a co-coordinating place for the various services intended to implement by our Trust. Thus, that can also manage, provide all sorts of assistance in the rehabilitation of de-addicted alcoholics and to their dependents who are suffered by the after-effects of Alcoholism. The said Center also will be the focal point through which we implement our programmes of education and propagation against alcohol abuse and will be the Counseling Center for different categories of persons who are badly in need of it.We located an ideal site for the establishment of such a PUNARJANI- Retreat Center at Poomala, which is a rural village, situated at a height more than about 1000 meters above the sea level and is only 15 Km away from Thrissur town. The said site having an extent of one acre is situated very adjacent to the reservoir of Poomala Dam. A very beautiful, calm and quite place with easy access to highway at which, electricity, communication and water facilities are easily available.Thus, our Trust purchased the said plot for an amount of Rs.5 lakhs on 30th March 2005 and in it, we are planting Herbal Medicinal plants to generate a 'Star-Forest' by growing respective plants of each 'birth-stars', which provide a peaceful meditative and totally unpolluted fresh air and atmosphere to the inhabitants of the Retreat & Rehabilitation Center.Moreover, we wish to construct a building complex having about 3500 Sq. feet area, in an eco-friendly manner of Architecture, by using locally available rock, granite, clay-bricks, bamboo and wood. Thus the Center would be hygienic and will be cheaper in cost. We estimate an amount of Rs 10 lacks for that purpose The other requirements of a compound wall, tube-wells, electricity, telephone, water connections, furniture for treatment and counseling and related requirements also should be implemented in the said Retreat and, De-addiction Treatment Center - "Punarjani".We already launched our website " www.punarjani.org " through which we intend to help alcoholics in their attempts to recover from alcoholism and also to educate and propagate against the abuse of alcohol and other drugs and also to spread out ideas and objectives about this disease, which can be cured, to the world, by enlarging its space, in due course.In this respect, we already created a Compact Disc by the name, "Punarjani" (re - birth) which is an illustration of the adverse impacts and agony suffered by human beings due to alcohol and other drug abuse with touching stories and experiences of the victims of alcohol.The said CD also included the discussions with eminent Doctors and Social Workers, who are interested and involved in the service of de-addiction treatment and in solving psychological problems of adversely affected persons. Prayer is God's gift to us to take our concerns to the throne of God. The Kannur Muslim Jama-ath is a well-known charitable institution, which renders social, cultural and educational services to promote the welfare of the weaker sections of the society. Under the able leadership of Shri. O.Andhi Sahib, the then chairman of Kannur Municipal Council and statesman of that time along with certain Muslim believers, the Muslim Jama-ath came into existence in 1927. The philanthropic activities planned were very moble and impressive in those days. However, there were break down due to lack of activities till 1968. Though it was streamlined and modified under the guidance of Shri. Arackal Adi Raja Ahammed Koya Thangal during 1958 the result was far from satisfactory. Again by 1968 all out efforts have been made by stalwart like Justice V. Khalid Saheb, late Panakkat Aboobacker Saheb alongwith above named personalities and a new committee was formed under the Presidential Status of (Late) Haji O.K Mohammed Kunhi Sahib. This was really the Golden age beginning of the new era of the Muslim Jamath. This institute is registered under societies act and also under "WAKF ACT".The services of Kannur Muslim Jama-ath for the uplift of the poor sections of the society are done without looking up at caste and religion to promote the welfare of humanity. Such activities are done to maintain communal harmony and friendship enunciated by Islam.Islam is not a religion which is supposed to be concerned itself only with faith and worship and not with other spheres of life. Islam on the other hand in a complete system and way of life which provides guidance to every sphere of activities of individual and collective life.Holy QUR'AN remainds us of our duty towards our fellowmen and society. Sura "MAUN " and " MUNAFIQUN " teach us the virtue of social service. "Remembrance of God" includes every act of service and goodness, every kind thought and kind deed, for this is the service and sacrifice which god requires of us. If we fail in this the loss is our own, not any one else's, for its stunts our own spiritual growth, Moreover Islam is the only religion that has given social service the status of "Ibadat". Most of the people in our country especially Muslim are very poor. Thus following the principles enunciated by Holy QUR'AN, Kannur Muslim Jama-ath is doing unique service for the welfare and uplift of the poor and needy in the society.
